I
love
getting together with my girlfriends. It's an event that doesn't happen too often for this old married momma, so I think that is why I treasure it all the more. There were six of us... kickin it at the Arclight on Sunset. So you know a good time has got to be had right?
From the moment we get together till weeks after there is sure to be a lot of laughter over the crazy... crazy... CRAZY conversations that we have/had. I don't know who reads this blog, so I will not go into details. Suffice it to say, it's no where near G rated.
I had no idea the Arclight was a star studded joint. In one night I saw (chest beats frantically) the lovely Ms. Sanaa Lathan. Thank God my girls were there or I wouldn't believe it myself. If you know me at all, you should know how much I love Sanaa!!!! Then we saw the maesto George Duke! All casual and chillin' with friends (I assume). After the movie we also saw Ronny Turiaf from the L.A. Lakers (why couldn't it have been Derek Fisher????)!! Finally, I spied Gina Ravera from the movie Soul Food who was in line behind us to validate parking.
Oh... The movie? We saw 'Wanted' with Ms. Hotness Angelina Jolie, The man Morgan Freeman and lawd a mercy - Common! AWESOME! Some of the special effects were a bit over the top, but definitely exciting to see. I'm also completely and thorougly through with the amount of scenes the lusciousness known as Common was in. But I will forgive them that with the wonderful performance from Morgan.

Derek Fisher! LOL
To be quite honest, I can't tell you the last time I watched a game from beginning to end. I'm usually busy doing something else around he house, and look up when I sense DF giving me the come hither look through the boob tube. To me, Derek Fisher IS the lakers, and when he wasn't on the team. Well, I still gave pound to the Lakers, but you best believe, I ws REALLY hyped for the Jazz!
Finding it hard to believe that 1/I've been fakin' all along and 2/ that i would dedicate an entire post to Derek Fisher?
BELIVE!
(just like the Boston Celtics did!)
LOL

Don't get me wrong, I love my father - that is so cliche. But, my relationship with him is not the greatest. It never has been. Hope one day it will be. But for now, it's virtually non-existent. So, trying to select a song that was reflective of my relationship with him was darn near impossible. It's not like he was/is a bad person. I know in my heart he did the best he could do when my sister and I were growing up. But that knowledge does not take away the sting of some things that happened and other things that didn't. Bottom line is. I didn't have a very good example of what being a father is really all about.
But.
In my best Shug Avery voice ... "I's married nah'. And although we've had many an up and down (and up and down and up and down... get the picture LOL) he has always been a phenomenal father! Self sacrificing, thoughtful, fair, etc., etc. So in him, I've learned what being a father and a parent in general is all about. So I celebrate him on fathers day.
I did manage to call my dad though. He was very jovial and glad to hear from me even though we were both watching the Lakers take a whoppin' (though they narrowly reigned victorious). It made me realize that I need to leave the past in the past, work on now, because the future is not promised.

His cousin Lauren also graduated. She has received a full ride to CSU Bakersfield for her skills on the court. I anticipate a court side WNBA seat in my future :-)
Their other cousin Camille also graduated a few weeks earlier (yea, Christmas was a riot about 16 years ago w/all the babies! LOL). She is already at Howard doing a summer program and will be attending in the fall.
As for my boo, he will be headed to Arizona State University in just a few short months. And my dauther will be heading back to Texas (Southern).
Man - I feel old!
