Derek Fisher! LOL
To be quite honest, I can't tell you the last time I watched a game from beginning to end. I'm usually busy doing something else around he house, and look up when I sense DF giving me the come hither look through the boob tube. To me, Derek Fisher IS the lakers, and when he wasn't on the team. Well, I still gave pound to the Lakers, but you best believe, I ws REALLY hyped for the Jazz!
Finding it hard to believe that 1/I've been fakin' all along and 2/ that i would dedicate an entire post to Derek Fisher?
BELIVE!
(just like the Boston Celtics did!)
LOL

Don't get me wrong, I love my father - that is so cliche. But, my relationship with him is not the greatest. It never has been. Hope one day it will be. But for now, it's virtually non-existent. So, trying to select a song that was reflective of my relationship with him was darn near impossible. It's not like he was/is a bad person. I know in my heart he did the best he could do when my sister and I were growing up. But that knowledge does not take away the sting of some things that happened and other things that didn't. Bottom line is. I didn't have a very good example of what being a father is really all about.
But.
In my best Shug Avery voice ... "I's married nah'. And although we've had many an up and down (and up and down and up and down... get the picture LOL) he has always been a phenomenal father! Self sacrificing, thoughtful, fair, etc., etc. So in him, I've learned what being a father and a parent in general is all about. So I celebrate him on fathers day.
I did manage to call my dad though. He was very jovial and glad to hear from me even though we were both watching the Lakers take a whoppin' (though they narrowly reigned victorious). It made me realize that I need to leave the past in the past, work on now, because the future is not promised.

His cousin Lauren also graduated. She has received a full ride to CSU Bakersfield for her skills on the court. I anticipate a court side WNBA seat in my future :-)
Their other cousin Camille also graduated a few weeks earlier (yea, Christmas was a riot about 16 years ago w/all the babies! LOL). She is already at Howard doing a summer program and will be attending in the fall.
As for my boo, he will be headed to Arizona State University in just a few short months. And my dauther will be heading back to Texas (Southern).
Man - I feel old!

Today I wore my JR shirt to work ~ cause I'm gangsta like that. JR stands for Jesus Rules. He do! That's my belief. It's funny to think that in a culture that finds it appropriate to allow various potty mouth words onto mainstream TV; music is infused with degrading lyrics; the fact that I'm subjected to all kinds of music here at work; constantly hear people drop the F bomb in the office, etc., etc. that *I* could quite conceivably be called into HR and told that MY T-shirt is found to be offensive by someone! LOL
I was chatting with my girl Cicely about it earlier, and she made a statement that is so true:
C
heck the Constitution, the Bible, the Koran, the Talmud, and the Torah - no where - in none of those texts did you receive a guarantee that you would go through your adult life unoffended - grow up people.
Hello?!

I'm growing increasingly irritated with people looking me dead in the face and not speaking. I can overlook it, somewhat, if I don't know you. But if we've seen each other a number of times, you should speak. If we work on the same floor, you should speak.
The flip side is... I *could* speak, but given the ridiculous way you approach me looking blankly through me, I wonder if you'd even hear it! I *could* speak, but given the way you don't even acknowledge my warm hello smile, I don't know if I feel you are then worthy of the actual words. I *could* speak, and make you acknowledge me, of course, you could be extremely rude and STILL not say anything. I *could* speak, pleasantly saying hello and at the same time letting you know you are rude to have come into my space and not speak..
Yea. I'll speak. Depending on the day, you may get any of the above responses. And you deserve it!
